Scope and topics:
The family of two-dimensional (2D) materials grows day by day, hugely expanding the scope of possible phenomena to be explored in two dimensions. 2D materials may go beyond the presence of an enhanced depolarization field in ultrathin ferroelectrics, thereby opening a pathway to explore low-dimensional ferroelectricity. The recently discovered 2D magnetic crystals provide ideal platforms for understanding 2D magnetism, the control of which has been fueling opportunities for atomically thin spintronics devices, such as magnetoresistive memories and spin field-effect transistors. The possible van der Waals (vdW) heterostructures that built by 2D ferroelectric and/or ferromagnetic materials opens up exciting possibilities for unprecedented properties and functionalities, such as sliding ferroelectrics, interlayer antiferromagnets, and multiferroics. The investigation of 2D ferroelectric, ferromagnetic and multiferroic materials has attracted significant interest in recent years for applications in functional electronics, maintaining Moore’s Law.
